Right now is quite a troubling time for all of us sports fans. Especially for myself at AB3 Sports considering two of the three major sports we focus on are in a lockout on their professional level, but even in regular years without lockouts there is not a lot going on in the sports world this time of year.
The new feel of the baseball season has worn off by now as we approach the All Star break, and the "dog days" of the baseball season, because it is still far too early to talk playoff races. You never want to say there is a "meaningless" game but you sure look to this part of the baseball schedule as just trying to get through it and back to the excitement.
In basketball as we mentioned the NBA is in a lockout and unlike the NFL there is a serious possibility of missing an entire NBA season as owners try to take back the power the players have taken from them in their league. Even hockey and the NHL are not in season during this time of year.
With football the anticipation starts to rise a little this time of year because preseason typically starts around a month from now with the Hall Of Fame game in Canton, Ohio, but as we mentioned they're having their own lockout struggles. What seemed so promising a week ago that they would have a deal done, now seems to have taken a one hundred and eighty degree turn in the other direction. As a result, for our football needs, and entertainment, we are left with John Gruden talking to Terrell Pryor in his year of the quarterback special, with Pryor proving yet again he does not have the maturity or mind to be an NFL quarterback, and that is not even getting into the flaws with his skill set.
So at last with so much of nothing going on this time of year in the sports world it makes the fourth of July that much more meaningful. The unofficial mid-point of the summer, a perfect little break to gather with family and friends. Cookout and blow up some cheap fireworks and what normally results in a nice long weekend and break away from work. It is also a nice reminder of how great it is to live in and be part of our great nation. A country that allows a person like myself the opportunity to hop on a computer a few times a week and share my views and opinions on whatever topic I want, with all of you.
Hopefully soon the labor deals will be settled, and we don't miss any of the season from any of the sports that we all enjoy, but until then from myself and everyone else here on AB3 Sports, and Scoreonair.com, I would just like to wish everyone of you a happy and safe fourth of July holiday.
